AENU Peru is a non-profit association that was born from the initiative of a group of university students interested in the debate and current world affairs. It all began in 2005, when a group of students from the University of Lima decided to form the Circle of Studies on the United Nations to participate for the first time in the Harvard National Model United Nations (HNMUN), the most prestigious and oldest MUN.
Year after year, better results were achieved in the competition, until 2010, when the circle was transformed into AENU Peru, allowing access to students from other universities. After several years of participating in this competition, it was also decided to enter for the first time in 2012 in the Harvard World Model United Nations (HWMUN) and in 2016 in the Harvard National Model United Nations Latin America (HNMUNLA).
In this way, after 10 years of successful results, with more than 200 national and international awards, we managed to position our team "Peruvian Universities" in the second place of the ranking of international delegations, and in the fifth place of the world ranking. Likewise, it is positioned as the delegation with the longest history and prestige after having won the Best Large Delegation at HWMUN 2014, Outstanding Large Delegation at WorldMUN 2016 and Best and Outstanding Large Delegation at HNMUNLA 2017 and 2018.
AENU Peru also has two other important projects like Acción AENU and Programa de Extensión Académica (PEA). Acción AENU is the association's social aid programme aimed at promoting the development of psychosocial skills in children and young people in a state of vulnerability through workshops developed under the "life skills" approach, which has been recognised by the UN. PEA is the program that aims to promote Model United Nations in educational institutions like schools and universities.
